Antrim coast
A fine day so we decided to travel along the north Antrim coast to the Giants Causeway. It was wet the day we went 6 years ago.
We found our way- easily!? - through northern parts of Belfast where we are staying, onto the road north to Larne & Carrickfergus. We stopped at the castle at the latter. Town there from before Fergus, 1st king of Scotland was returning home to get treatment for his leprosy, when his ship sank off coast & he was drownedCastle later built by Ango-Normans John de Courcey & Hugh de Lacy.
Sun came out & beautiful drive along the coastline. Narrow roads & lots of cyclists to avoid as well.
We stopped at Glenarm, favourite caravan & mobile home stopover right beside the water. Steenson Jewellers been there for 41 years. Game of Throwns been a windfall for them - everything made in workshop there & very expensive. We 'drove into' another fun run!
On to Cushendall & Cushendun, very pretty villages with white house 'all in a row' - VERY picturesque. Here r
There was a cycle race on - police cars with sirens before & after the big main bunch. 100s of cyclists.
These are the Antrim McCollum places. I asked if there were any McCollums there & told 'lot's still living there. We met John McCollam the Master Stone mason- same as my great-grandfather!. He returned unexpectedly to his workshop while we were having lunch nearby!
He knew a lot about his McCollums (His great-grandfather changed surname to 'am from 'um' in 1901 census. They were from Slockvullin in western Scotland. I left my email address as his cousin does family research.
We continued along the coast past castle ruins & Game of Thrones movie sites.
Warren walked The Giants Causeway again - this time in sunshine.
We drove back to Belfast in an hour & a half. Sun still shining at 9pm

Hi Barbara & Warren. I just lost the comment I had written to you. Here is Take two... Glad I have found your posts and I have really enjoyed reading about your adventures. I wish my Irish people came from Enniskillen area so I could have reason to spend time there. We went on the family history trip organised by Kate to La Perouse today. It was great and Kate did such a good job with extra information and well organised transport connections. Lunch was lovely too at the nearby seafood cafe. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your adventures
