Last days of train trip

Another day trip was from Inverness on Kyle of Lochalsh trip to the coast opposite the Isle of Skye. More lovely green hills & dales, beside lochs & mountains.  Throughlittle towns of Aviemore & finally Plockton - little white houses where Hamish MacBeth TV show based. It's beside huge bay that train sweeps around. UUnfortunately we had rain & Scotch mist.
Coach picked us up & took us to Eileen Donan Castle.  Had to cross stone bridge on Loch Duich.  It has interesting history. It was mostly destroyed in Viking times & Clan civil wars. The Macrae family rebuilt it in early 1900s. They used the stone that was there & plans from old castle. The family still live nearby. Two great talks about it.

On way back to Inverness we stopped at Thomas Telford built bridge - early 1800s.
The Next & Llast day we left Inverness & trained down to Edinburgh.
We stayed in the Raddison Blu Hotel on the corner of The Royal Mile & North Bridge.
Lovely room!
We walked back to station& booked train to Newcastle for the next day. 25 pounds for 2on the 10.10 Cross COUNTRY train.

After that we caught the X37 bus out to Rosslyn to see the world renown Chapel - made famous in Dan Browns book, The da Vinci Code.
45 mins trip - 1 pound 70p each. Joined by group of 25 school kids who'd been on an excursion to the Zoo.
Roslyn Chapel only small; built by St Clair family in 1700s. Rampant up side; inside mass of sandstone sculptures.
Records were destroyed by fire so people can only guess at their history.
INCREDIBLE!!

Last wonderful night. Drinks followed by piperpiping us into dinner. 4 courses (including haggis) & wine. Piper played, sang, recited poetry, history, stories & played for Scottish dancer.
