CRUISE- week 1

Easy entry onto ship!
As soon as our taxi pulled up their was a guy there with a trolley to take our bags!!!!
We had to wait 1.5 hours to board. Ship was late in due to propulsion trouble but all fixed now.
Everyone very chatty while waiting. Sandy & Merc arrived soon after us.
We had to wait for the PRIORITY PEOPLE boarded then we could!!!!
Nearly half the passengers are ELITE CLASS & don't some of them let you know it ; others lovely. Some are on their 10th World Cruise & booked next year!!!! Others on their 44th Princess cruise! They all know each other; know All the lurks & perks & are just so spoilt & precious!!!!!!! They get free internet, special meals, washing done places reserved for them!!!!!

Anyway....... enough!!!!

We are on Deck 8 towards back if ship with HUGE window to loom out! We dine at any time that suits in Dining Room or Horizon Buffet.

I got a cold 2 days before cruise in Dover & have no voice!! I get coughing fits & feel really conspicuous with it. Many have similar that started when they left Singapore & have spent time in hospital in board or at Drs - horrendously expensive.

Stop 1 - Portland / Weymouth
Royal Navy & Maratime town since Henry 8th until 1990s.
Typical British summer holiday resort - rows of deck chairs along promenade; fun parlour games & rides; BIG hotels & Guest Houses; very wide beach.

Stop 2 - Cork, Ireland
Arrived 10am. Carina & Mike Collins from Your Irish Heritage met us & took us out for the day. So lovely to see them!
We went to place where Michael Collins (Irish Unionist leader) was ambushed & killed by British in 1922.
We co tinned on the Glendoran - beautiful restaurant overlooking lovely bay of little sailing ships; surrounded by old church, farmlands etc.
Just beautiful! Fabulous seafood lunch!
On to town of Clonakilty for coffee.
We got stuck on the freeway back to the ship with 4 car accident!
However, finally back after wonderful day.
Can't find photos! Hope they catch up with tablet when I next have internet!

Riverside Farm Enniskillen

When we were here 6 years ago we stayed in the self-contained cottage on Riversidd Farm, 2 miles out of Enniskillen the main town in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The other Collums

When I started researching my g-greatfather Robert Collum, I found another Robert S. Collum who was the Honorary Consul for Portugal who lived in various Sydney (posh!) addresses - all called 'Enniskillen' where my Collum's came from! He ended up living on a poultry farm in Herring Road Marsfield/Eastwood where I grew up! He married Emily Suttor, daughter of the Bathurst MP & there is a photograph on them in Freeman's Journal in the Mitchell Library. His father was Dr Robert Collum, born in 1814 in Enniskillen, who married Flora Nightingale  SANDEMAN from Scotland. The Sandeman's were a very (wealthy) influential family whose descendants were huge 'multi companies' of importers & exporters throughout the world eg tea plantations in (Ceylon) Sri Lanka, wine in Europe, spices Far East. Last day in England

A last day to get everything 7before the cruise & see some more of the places nearby. Over the weekend we'd looked up Podiatrists so Warren could get histoenails cut!!! Wondered about how to get there, appointments & the like. So we set off at 8.45 & walked to the end of our block. Across the road was the Royal Nail Salon with a youngish Chinese guy standing outside. Warren said to him 'do you cut toenails?'   Yes.  Can you cut mine? Now?  Yes! In we go - & out 5mins later with cut & filed nails - £5!!! Bargain! We walked the easy mile walk into the town centre. HUGE Maison Dieu grey stone building that takes up a whole block. Now Town Hall & Creative Arts Centre. It was founded by St Augustus in 9oos as a Monastery & Hospice. At Clarke's shoe shop Warren bought  pair of sandals.
